Roy Hersh (FTLOP) (94 points):
"One of my favorites from the Symington's stable of 2004 VPs. This dark purplish colored SQVP delivers a sexy nose and is laden with dense, ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit. The palate attack is surprisingly sweet for a Bomfim and it has more of a viscous, black fruit profile which is smooth and ultra-ripe. The tannins are prominent and showing more drying astringency than when I tried it nearly four months ago. Today it shows as a chewy, concentrated beast with a superlative layered finish. This youngster shows a solid core within which will drink best in a couple of decades or three."

"The 2004 Quinta do Bomfim is garnet in colour, but readily transparent. It packs a solid punch on the nose, however. Loaded with plum, raspberry, and cherry, and tar and a faint whiff of wood smoke from burning old vines in the Douro hills in November. Lovely underlays of chocolate, salami, and mint. On the palate, stupendous elegance and charm with a huge, smooth finish that just goes on and on. Muted tannins, but enough to persuade me this is good for at least another 10 years. Loads of cherry, plum, chocolate; an aphrodisiac for the gums and palate. At the risk of being vulgar, a sexy beast."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (92 points)
"The 2004 Quinta do Bomfim comes in at 100 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is put together nicely. It is a more intellectual Single Quinta than its siblings this issue, but its best features should pay dividends over the long haul in the cellar. Dry and muscular, rather intense and focused, this is not actually quite ready to drink and will certainly benefit more from some cellaring or decanting. The precision and structure here should allow this to age gracefully and acquire more complexity, even if it is "sort of" approachable now. It should continue to improve over the next decade, at the least."

"Kulsorte bær! Dramatisk, engelsk lakrids, men lukket. Flot kraft, ikke fylde, i smagen, stadig ung, men lidt udvikling. Tør stil, moderat tannin. Skal have 5-10 år mere i kælderen. Typisk DOW-stil - fin pris."
