"My money is on the 2016 Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan De Dieu Calendal, from brilliant consultant Philippe Cambie, being the finest example of this cuvée to date, and it’s certainly one of the finest Côtes du Rhônes ever produced as well. Made from 70% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre brought up in barrel, this full-bodied beauty boasts a saturated purple color as well as a huge nose of cassis, toasted spices, crushed flowers, and hints of garrigue. It’s round and opulent, yet also elegant, with rock-solid underlying structure. Don’t miss it."
