Wine Enthusiast (96 points):
"This fragrant red has aromas of iris, violet, wild berry, leather and eucalyptus. On the full-bodied, delicious palate, fresh acidity and firm, fine-grained tannins support dried cherry, nutmeg and licorice before a tobacco finish. Drink 2025–2032."
Wine Review Online (96 points):
"Barolo Ravera “Bricco Pernice” 2017 is made entirely from the Lampia clone of Nebbiolo and shows a lot of firm tannins in this vintage. However, the wine is still very appealing even at this early stage of development, with lovely aromas and flavors that show excellent detail. The fruit is open and inviting when first tasted, and the midpalate is also extremely appealing before the tannins begin to show their grip in the wine’s finish. The 2017 growing season was not an easy one, and had an almost impossible act to follow when succeeding the historically outstanding 2016 vintage, and yet this wine shows great skill and promises a long and illustrious finish."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (95 points):
"The 2017 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice shows generous inner fiber and richness with dried cherry, blackberry, plum and dark spice. Fruit for this wine comes from a beautiful amphitheater of vines with the perched town of Novello high up on the skyline. I love the especially smooth and soft quality to what is a powerful and lasting wine."
Wine Spectator (95 points):
"A pretty red, boasting rose, strawberry and raspberry flavors accented by mown hay, leather, iron and tobacco. In terms of texture and structure, this is like an iron fist in a velvet glove. Fine length. Best from 2024 through 2043."
