Alex Head: "HEAD RED Shiraz is a barrel cull from Barossa vineyards including 'The Blonde', 'The Brunette' and ‘The Contrarian’ single vineyard wines. The wine always receives 12 months barrel age in predominantly older French hogsheads (2250 l) allowing the vintage and terroir to show clearly. It’s also a chance for me to play with the old adage, 'The whole is greater than the sum of its parts'. Certainly the best value and most traditional wine style of the portfolio. Bottled unfined and unfiltered."

"There's a lot happening here, all of it good. 80% is sourced from the Eden Valley, 20% the Barossa Valley, co-fermented on skins for 14 days, matured in French oak (10% new), the barrel size ranging from 225l to 2250l. There's a poultice of red and black fruits and ribbons of fine, ripe tannins. You can't deny a wine like this."
