"The deepest-hued wine in the lineup most years, the 2024 Châteauneuf Du Pape Deus-Ex Machina pairs 60% old-vine Grenache planted in 1905 with 40% Mourvèdre raised in new barrels, and as always, the Mourvèdre gives this a more powerful, structured style compared to the La Combe des Fous. Sensational black cherry and darker berry fruits intermixed with roasted garrigue, graphite, white pepper, and sandalwood emerge from the glass. Full-bodied, deep, rich, and textured on the palate, it has fine, building tannins and a blockbuster finish. The vintage doesn't get much better. Give bottles a year or two and enjoy over the following 15-20 years. Drink 2028-2048."
